Meet The Founder

Shondell Reis

Founder & Executive Director JBR

My name is Shondelle Reis, and I am the Founder and Executive Director of JBR Family Pursuing Change. I created this organization in loving memory of my son, Joshua Bernard-Reis, and out of a deep commitment to transform personal loss into collective healing and meaningful change. I am a mother, community advocate, and lifelong servant leader who believes that every person deserves dignity, support, and hope especially in times of grief, trauma, and uncertainty.

My journey through loss has shaped my purpose: to walk alongside families impacted by violence and tragedy, and to help create spaces where healing, empowerment, and restoration can take place.

For over two decades, I have been actively involved in community development, youth engagement, and family support initiatives. Through programs such as Pathways to Healing, One Harmony Family Circle, and Mom Needs a Break – Sit, Sip & Chat, I work to uplift women, youth, and families by providing emotional support, practical resources, and opportunities for growth.

My leadership is grounded in empathy, integrity, and lived experience. I lead with humility, transparency, and a strong commitment to accountability, ensuring that every program reflects our mission of “Turning Pain into Purpose.” I believe in building strong partnerships, sustainable systems, and community driven solutions that create lasting impact. Above all, I am guided by love—love for my son, my family, and the communities I serve. I believe that even in our most painful moment

Meet Board Members

Clifford Elson

BOARD MEMBER OF JBR

My name is Clifford Elson, and I’m honored to serve as a Board Member with JBR Family Pursuing Change. I migrated from Jamaica and built my life through hard work, perseverance, and faith. I’m a proud father and grandfather, and my family is the reason I stay grounded and keep pushing forward.

My career has been built with my hands and my heart. I started in manufacturing, completed my apprenticeship in automotive refinishing, and then my father and I took a bold step we started our own automotive body work and repair business. We ran it for over 20 years, serving people with skill, honesty, and pride in every job we did. Today, I work in textile manufacturing with an international design company that supplies major institutions and retailers, including Walmart Canada. I also operate a private janitorial business. No matter what the role is, I believe in showing up, working hard, and doing things the right way.

I joined JBR Family Pursuing Change in 2024, standing in support of this mission after the loss of Joshua. This work matters to me. I’m here to help strengthen families, support healing, and be part of real change in our community.

Quote: “My life has taught me this: work hard, keep your faith, and treat people right. When you can help lift someone up, you do it because that’s what purpose looks like.” Clifford Elson

Janice

BOARD MEMBER OF JBR

I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for JBR Family Pursuing Change, an organization that is deeply personal to me as a sister, Joshua’s aunt, a mother, a daughter, and a devoted friend.

This mission reflects my family’s journey, and I carry it with love, responsibility, and purpose. With over twenty years of experience as a support professional in educational and residential settings, I have dedicated my life to serving children, youth, and adults with disabilities and complex needs. Through my work as an Educational Assistant, Student Needs Assistant, and Personal Support Worker, I provide academic, emotional, and daily living support while promoting dignity, independence, and inclusion. My work is grounded in empathy, patience, and professionalism. I believe every person deserves to feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Beyond my professional roles, I have been a strong pillar within my family and our communities, committed to showing up, standing strong in difficult moments, and helping others find hope through compassion and connection.

As a board member, I bring my lived experience, professional knowledge, and heartfelt commitment to advancing our mission of turning pain into purpose and strengthening families through healing and hope.

Quote: “Love, service, and faith guide my life. When we stand together with compassion, we create spaces where healing and hope can grow.
